Last Rites Held For W. Smith
Last rites for William Alva Smith of North Plains were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Sunset Chapel of Donelson, Sewell & Hammack Mortuary. Al Craig of the Church of Christ, Hillsboro, officiated and a group from the church sang.
Concluding service and interment was at Fir Lawn cemetery, Hillsboro. With Bill Wilson, Doug Norwood, Ray Bob Dodd, Joe Watts, Leo Smith and Crandle Sisco serving as casket bearers.
Mr Smith died at a local hospital after a lenghty illness.
He was born at Midway, Kansas January 16, 1901 to Joseph Albert and Mintie Bell Warren Smith. He was married at Mulberry, Kansas June 18, 1925 to Miss Martha Ellen Hartman he worked as a Kansas coal miner for 20 years and the past 20 years did general farm work.
Surviving are the widow, Martha Ellen, North Plains; his mother, Mintie Bell Smith, Girard, Kansas; two sons, Richard Leroy and Jimmie Dale, of North Plains and six daughters Alma and Mrs. James (Alice) Belk, North Plains; Mrs. Glenn (LaRee) Connely, Portland. Mrs. Ted (Rosella) Rice, Scapoose; Mrs. Curtis (Georgia) Owenby, Dale City, California, and Mrs. James (Daisy) Phelen, Firebaugh, Calif; also 14 Grandchildren and one great grandchild
