Jonelle Crawford Warkaske of Fernandina Beach, Fl., passed away Friday, June 3, 2011 at Baptist Medical Center, Jacksonville, Fl. She was born in Norfolk, Va., the daughter of G.W. "Tex" Crawford and Marjorie C. Crawford on May 17, 1946. Since her father was in the U.S. Navy, the family were stationed at many locations during her early years. She graduated from Paris American High School in Paris, France, Class of 1964. In 1966 she entered the U.S. Navy Reserves. She attended University of South Carolina in Columbia, graduating in 1968 with a B.S. Degree in Nursing. While in school, she met and married Steven Warkaske. His career required them to move to many places: Charleston, S. C., Great Falls, Montana and eventually Omaha, Nebraska. In 1979, she decided to resume her education receiving her B.A. Degree in Business from Bellevue University, Bellevue, Nebraska. Their careers took them to Washington, D.C. and she worked various medical facilities and as director of the Health Unit at the National Archives. After retirement 2003, they made their home in Fernandina Beach, Fl.
Jonelle enjoyed many hobbies such as collections and doing crafts. She, along her sisters and mother, loved to do Bible studies with various groups in the area. Her favorites were Beth Moore and Kay Arthur.
Jonelle leaves to mourn a beloved husband of 43 years, Steven; her son Steven Warkaske, Jr. (Kathy) of Ada, OK.; her daughter, Dawnelle Bass (Kevin) of Jacksonville, FL.; her mother Marge Crawford of Fernandina Beach; her sister Becky Stafford (Allen) of Jacksonville, FL. and her Grandchildren, Olivia, Camille, Shyla, Sariya, Sofie and Sage. Besides her father Tex Crawford, Jonelle was predeceased by her youngest sister Darlene Brantley.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Monday at the Oxley- Heard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard with Rev. Tom Price, officiating. Soloists during the service were Melissa Penrod singing "Amazing Grace" and Jerry Brown singing "I Can Only Imagine" and "Peace In the Valley". Her ashes will placed near her father's at the Amelia Island Plantation Chapel Columbarium.
