A hardworking family man, Michael Keith Johnson, 60, of Kelso passed away unexpectedly Dec. 20, 2011, as the result of a heart attack.
He was born June 18, 1951, in Coos Bay, Ore., and graduated from Oregon City High School in 1969. Mike served as a radio operator in the Army before moving to the local area 27 years ago.
He married Sandie Jo Schmitz in Reno March 20, 1989. She survives him at home.
Mike owned MKJ Marine Towing and was captain of the Shae Lee tugboat. He'd often say, "If it floats, I can tow it."
He was a member of the Rainier Eagles and enjoyed fishing, basketball, four-wheeling, music, volunteering for the Rainier Days firework show, beach parties at Long Beach and Cottonwood Island, video games, boating and crabbing. Mike was a loyal friend and went above and beyond in all situations. He was bigger than life.
His father, Keith Hilmar Johnson and his mother, Jan Eleanor Campynol preceded him in death.
In addition to his wife, Sandie Johnson, Mike is survived by three children, Shae Lee Lesley Johnson of Longview, and Scotty Michael Johnson and Merilee Michelle Johnson, both of Kelso; six sisters, Suzie Batchelor of Milwaukie, Ore., Christy Cline and Holly Campynol, both of Gladstone, Ore., Becky Arnold of Oregon City, Jodi Carnahan of Ogden, Utah, and Terri Johnson of Salt Lake City;his stepbrother Dean Campynol of Fairview, Ore., his stepfather, Geno Campynol of Oregon City; his stepmother, Beverly Johnson of Longview; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will celebrate Mike's life Jan. 21 in Oregon City.
