Member of the Idaho State University Sports Hall of Fame as both a Football and Basketball player.

In 1984 Jerry was inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame as a coach.

TWIN FALLS - Gerald R. "Jerry" Dellinger, 76 of Twin Falls and formerly of Jerome, died Sunday, July 10, 1988 at his home following a sudden illness.
Born Jan. 22, 1912, in Stafford, Kan., the son of Ray and Pearl Dellinger, he moved with his family when he was 8 years old to Bristol, Colo., where he attended grade school through sixth grade. He moved with his family to a farm near Jerome in 1922 and he graduated from Jerome High School.
He attended Idaho State University in Pocatello for three years. There he was named Outstanding Athlete of the Year and his name was placed in the Hall of Fame in 1960.
He received a master's degree from the University of idaho in Moscow, in 1936, in physical education and history. There he was also a member of Sigma Nu.
After college, he moved to Montpelier, where he coached at Montpelier High School in 1938, staying for two years before moving to Rupert in 1940, where he coached basketball and football. In 1942 he moved to Nampa where he coached for five years. There he was a member of the Kiwanis and other organizations.
Dellinger than moved to Portland, Ore. where he coached until moving to Jerome, where he coached from 1949 to 1958. During that time he was president of the Idaho State Coaches Association, was named Coach of the Year and Man of the year.
He was member of the Rotary Club, president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and was president of the Country Club while in Jerome.
He organized the Idaho Coaching Clinic in 1949 and was a member of the activies board from 1956 to 1963.
From Jerome he moved to Nampa where he coached basketball, football and golf until 1965.
He married Lois B. Kuhne on July 22, 1966, in McCall. They moved to Pocatello, where he coached football and basketball for two years. In 1967 he worked at ISU, where he was in charge of high school relations for a time until they moved to Twin Falls several years ago.
Surviving are: his wife of Twin Falls; daughter, Marilyn Newman of Clinton, N.Y. step-daughters, Glenda Wickham of Graham Wash. and Mary Jane Ford of Boise; one brother, Wayne Dellinger of Monterey, Calif.; one sister, Melba Knuffke of Fresno, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Jerome High School auditorium. Burial will follow in the Jerome cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hove-Robertson Funeral Chapel in Jerome this evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
