Of Roseville Died Friday, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. She is survived by her partner of thirteen years Shelly; her pets Olema—service dog, Abbie, Maile and Marley; parents Gary and Aline; Ann was a vibrant life spirit that deeply touched everyone she met. For the past five years, Ann has been assisted by a wonderful group of personal care attendants that have given her joy and independence. Her doctors and nurses also played a vital role in maintaining Ann's complicated health situation and gave her years longer on this earth. Ann's partner Shelly, her large family and family of friends gave her joy and helped her live well. Ann was born and raised in Amboy, MN. She graduated from Buena Vista College (Storm Lake, IA) in 1991 and worked in the field of domestic violence for 15 years. During her professional career as well as in her personal life, Ann was known for her sense of humor, her love of life, and her ability to get a lot done gracefully and efficiently. Some of the highlights of Ann's life included singing the national anthem for a Timberwolves' game, completing and publicly reading a collection of poetry and stories for her Master's Degree, and the birth/adoptions and lives of her nieces, nephews, and friend's children. She was happiest wearing a great outfit on a "good hair day", eating chocolate at least daily, going to a Wolves game, singing with a favorite CD, laying in the sun with a friend, reading a good book, going on a walk with her service dog, or sharing a really good meal. Ann was devoted to the practice of retail therapy and was a self-identified fashionista, as was evidenced by her elation that Banana Republic carries size zero petite, the acquisition of custom purses and bags that matched with her chair, and the numerous great shopping trips, haircuts, and shoe sales. Among Ann's many professional accomplishments is the establishment of a national online clearinghouse of information and research on domestic violence. She had recently completed a Master's of Liberal Studies at the University of Minnesota, and had the honor of being selected for the President's Emerging Leaders Program, which accomplishes goals set by the University's president while placing participants with mentors for leadership. She was politically active on behalf of the rights of women and people with disabilities, and had a deep sense of justice. Ann had an extraordinary ability to communicate and connect with people. Family, friends, and colleagues admired her sense of fashion, her singing voice, and especially her grace in the face of changing health. She is terribly missed by many.
