Jockey, Triple Crown Winner. Earl Sande was born November 13, 1898, at Groton, South Dakota, to John and Tillie Sande Earl Sande went on to become one of the top jockeys of all time, with five Belmont Stakes wins; three Kentucky Derby wins; one Preakness win; one Triple Crown win riding Gallant Fox, making him one of only eleven jockeys to win a triple crown; five Jockey Club Gold Cups; four Withers Stakes; three Lawrence Realizations; three Suburban Handicaps; three Dwyer Stakes; third on the Lifetime Winning Percentage List; and more than sixty percent of all mounts finishing in the money.
In 1955, Earl Sande was part of the inaugural class inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.
