Queen of Castile-Leon. Also known by the names Isabelle and Elisabeth. She was the second youngest daughter of the German King Philipp of Swabia and his wife Irene of Byzantinum. In 1208, shortly before he killed her father, it was considered to marry her to Otto of Wittelsbach. After the death of both of her parents she lived at her sisters, court in Brunswick. On November 30th, 1219 she was married to King Ferdinand III of Castile. The marriage was very happy and she bore him ten children of which eight survived to adulthood. One of their children was Alfonso who succeeded his father and was later elected German King. She died after giving birth to her tenth child, Maria. Beatrix was first buried at the Real Monasterio las Huelgas and was moved to her current resting place in the 16th century.
