From Philip's birth in 1944 until 1963 he lived in Indiana with his family. In 1961 he joined the United States Army. After a tour of duty in Korea, he was stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso Texas where he met and married Vinita Lynch. In 1965 he attended Officer Candidate School in Ft. Benning Georgia, received his commission as a Second Lieutenant, and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri. He was discharged from the United States Army in February 1970 based on a disability of stress induced diabetes which he developed while serving his second tour of duty in Vietnam.
He and Vinita had three children Shari, Lisa and Jonas. In 1973 he and Vinita divorced and in 1975 he married Diana Steele. He and Diana moved to Gillette Wyoming where he worked as an electrical contractor and lived until his death in 1999. Philip had the distinction of being the most decorated Vietnam Veteran in the state of Wyoming, having earned a Silver Star, several Bronze Stars, and other recognitions of his bravery in action.
