He was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and went to Master Mechanics School, Dallas Aviation in 1937 and graduated from Ohio State University with an engineering degree in 1942. He was an industrial engineer for General Electric, and retired after 25 years from General Motors in Sandusky. He was instrumental in developing the headrest in automobiles.
He was a 52-year member of Elks 285, Sandusky, Science Lodge 50, F. and A.M., Sandusky, Valley of Toledo Consistory, a lifelong member of Delta Tau Delta, Beta Phi Chapter at Ohio State - a chapter his father founded, and First Congregational Church of Sandusky.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn S. (Suits), whom he married Aug. 14, 1943; and one daughter, Stacy B. (Allyn E.) Magers of Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Grace (Fletcher).
