Kathryn Kay Phebus (Kathy), age 65, died at her home in Palm Harbor, Florida on Monday September 29th.

Born on July 19, 1949 in South Bend, Indiana, she lived in Vineland, New Jersey before settling in Palm Harbor, Florida in 1984. Kathy graduated with her Bachelor's Degree from St. Mary's College in Indiana as well as her Master of Arts degree from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. She served as an educator for 38 years, teaching physics, chemistry, and math to high school students. While she was a teacher at East Lake High School, Tarpon Springs, Florida, she also started the school's first "Trisics" program. This program combined Trigonometry and Physics so students could learn about the interconnected nature of Science and Math. She retired from teaching in early July of 2014. Kathy was also very passionate about dogs and was a wonderful dog trainer known for her patience and ability to connect with both dogs and people through her training classes.

Kathy was a warm, loving, compassionate woman who dedicated her life to teaching both in the classroom and outside on the dog training field.

Survivors include her son Timothy Phebus of Las Vegas, Nevada, his wife Tara and their son Wyatt, her sister Sharon Utrias and her husband Charles of Warner Robbins, Georgia, her niece Suzy Carpenter of Greensboro, North Carolina, her nephew Jeff Utrias, of Boca Raton, Florida as well as her two beloved chocolate Labrador Retrievers, "Buddy" and "Boomer." Kathy was preceded in death by her mother Loretta Ewanic and her father Walter Ewanic.

Services celebrating Kathy's life were held at Serenity Funeral Home (13401 Indian Rocks Rd. Largo, FL 33774) at 2:00 pm on Sunday October 5th.
