He was a Dentist, practicing in Detroit, MI for many years,retiring in 1972. He also taught at the University of Detroit, teaching in Crown and Bridgework, he was the coordinator for the ship USS Hope, on invitation only, where he helped teach dental techniques to the dental communities such as Indonesia, Ceylon, Jamaica, as well as working with the missionaries in Guatemala, he also was a volunteer for over 15 years in Tuscon, AZ., with the St. Elizabeth Hungry Clinic, and a member of the American College of Dentistry, the American Dental Association, he also was a US Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, serving as Captain, he was a active member of Our Lady of Valley Catholic Church (Green Valley, AZ).
His survivors include his loving wife, of 35 years. Violet E. (Anderson) Kavanaugh; step-son, Gordon C. Carlson; sisters, Sr. Bernice Kavanaugh, Sr. Mary Charlotte Kavanaugh and Rose Kavanaugh; grandchildren, Gordon T. & Nicole Carlson; also numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2006 in St. Paul's Hermitage (501 N. 17th Ave, Beech Grove, IN 46107) at 10:30 A.M., where family will also receive friends on Monday, May 15, 2006 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. on Monday. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery (Indianapolis, IN).
Memorial contributions may be made to the Benedictine Nuns of the Ferdinand Monastery (Ferdinand, IN) and or to the St.Paul's Hermitage, Arrangements entrusted to Flanner & Buchanan Washington Park East Funeral Center.
