The transcription below was taken from an old "family bible that at one time belonged to one Emily (White) Butler. She was a granddaughter of George White, and a daughter of Daniel White. Her story was written before she moved to CA."

"My grandfather of revolutionary memory was taken prisoner at the defeat on Long Island, kept on board British prison ships; died the night his youngest son was born; (he) was found dead in his bed within one day's ride of his home; he having retired with the remark, "tomorrow I shall be with my family". Teams had been sent from Tolland, CT, to seaboard for exchanged prisoners. Out of forty men who went from Tolland, one only survived the hardships of the prison ships. My father was wont to say, "Our liberties cost my father's life". He left these children: Oliver White, Mary (White) Cogswell, Elizabeth (White) Drake, Daniel White, (and) George White. These all have lived and reared large families. Only Daniel and George are now living, August 1, 1856. His descendants number nearly one half thousand, nearly all (living?) in the eastern and middle states."

Lt. George White died on January 17, 1777 of Small Pox, on the day of the birth of his youngest son, George White.

Lt. George White was my 5th great grandfather.
God Bless.
