Amy was the 9th of 10 children of Burton and Beatrice Peterson. She developed leukemia (A.L.L.) in February of 1982. She underwent chemotherapy and radiation and had a bone marrow transplant at the University of Minnesota. She ultimately died of an infection that she couldn't overcome.
Amy was known as one of the "three little ones" in the family.
As a teenager, she was a cheerleader at Epiphany School.
