ANDERSON - Edward G. Masters, 86, died Sept. 4, 2009, at Community Hospital Anderson. He was born Oct. 24, 1922, in Elwood.
Edward graduated from Elwood High School, Class of 1942. He was a veteran who served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
In 1986, after 31 years, he retired from Fisher Body Co. in Marion. He was a member of UAW and former member of First Missionary Baptist Church and Elwood Country Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, collecting clocks, riding motorcycles and attending auctions. He also loved his dogs.
Survivors include his son, Thomas E. (Alice) Masters of Marshall, Ark.; daughter, Ruth Anne (Kent) Burris of Frankton; sister, Connie Ringler of Wyoming; five grandchildren, Michael (Amanda) Burris, Autumn Burris, Elisabeth (Gary) Herbert, Denise Masters and Robert Masters; and six great-grandchildren, James, Chelsea, Caleb, Jeseb, Ty and Riley.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford S. and Mary Elizabeth (Beeman) Masters; his wife, Betty F. (Talley) Masters, whom he married March 4, 1947, and who died June 14, 2004; a brother, Vaughn Masters; and two sisters, Cleo Cooper and Betty Rydell.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, 415 S. Anderson St., Elwood.
Burial will take place at Elwood City Cemetery, with military graveside rites.
