Obituary: Violet Farr Higham
Violet Farr Higham 1912 ~ 2005
Violet Farr Higham passed away at her home in Provo, Utah on April 13, 2005. She was born May 5, 1912 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Willard Ballantyne and Jane Lucretia Brown Farr. She spent many of her growing up years in Holbrook and St. Johns, Arizona before the family returned to Salt Lake.
She learned secretarial skills at a very young age, and transcribed reports for her father, a court reporter. Later, she worked for many years as a legal secretary.
She married Francis (Frank) Cope Higham on June 18, 1932 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. A very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was a gifted teacher who served in many positions in all of the auxiliaries of the Church. She and Frank served an LDS Mission at the Visitor's Center in Independence, Missouri, and for many years, she was a worker and supervisor at the Oakland, California Temple. After living many years in California, Violet and Frank returned to Utah in 1994. She gave loving and devoted care to Frank during his illness. Her cheerful spirit brought joy to her large family.
Violet is survived by her six children: Sharyn (Robert) Larsen, Moraga, CA; Frank Jr. (Linda), Lafayette, CA; Merrill (Carol), Belmont, CA; Linda Higham Thomson, Provo, UT; Leslie (Michael) Kallahan, American Fork; and Douglas (Colleen), Mission Viejo, CA; 36 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise McAllister, Vancouver, WA; and Mary Lou Lloyd, Kaysville, UT.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Willard Farr, two sisters, Zella Smith and Ethel Gardiner, and by her husband, Frank.
The family wishes to express our deep appreciation to the wonderful and loving Applegate Hospice caregivers, and to our very dear friend, Victoria Vasquez. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at 11:00 a.m., in the Edgemont North Stake Center, 4300 North Canyon Road, Provo. Friends may call Tuesday evening, from 6-8 p.m., at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, or Wednesday morning, at the Stake Center, 9 to 10:45 am. Interment, American Fork City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to www.BergMortuary.com.
