Vance Bartlett Cotten Jr. was born May 5, 1921 in Bluffdale, Texas to parents Vance Bartlett Cotten Sr. and Bertha Reynolds Cotten. He grew up in Albany and later graduated from Albany High School. Mr. Cotten would continue his education and attended classes at Tarleton State University and Ranger College where he received his associate's degree in animal husbandry. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He found love and married Glenna Jean Spain on August 18, 1947. She preceded him in death in 1997. Mr. Cotten's lifetime passion was ranching and working with horses. He enjoyed roping, cutting and training horses and fishing. He served as secretary for the West Central Texas Cutting Horse Association, chairman for the West Texas Rehab Round Up, United States Team Roping Champion and was inducted into the Cutting Horse Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Wanda and Eurlene.
Mr. Cotten is survived by one daughter, Carla Springer and husband Glenn of Aspermont; one sister, Dorothy Williams of Mesquite; one grandson, Cody Springer and wife Kelley of Aspermont; two great grandchildren, Bailey Springer and Riley Springer; four nieces and one nephew.
