SARA GUNTER HULSEY Age 85, died Friday, December 28, 2001, at her eldest son's home in Buford. She was the oldest daughter of twelve children of John Claude and Mary Etta Satterfield Gunter, and grew up in Gainsville, Atlanta, Chestatee and Mossy Creek.

After graduating high school she worked at the welfare office in Cleveland. She met her future husband Barney Hulsey at Center Grove Baptist Church. She said he had the most beautiful blue eyes she had ever seen. They married in 1939 and had six children.

After Barney's death in 1985, she continued to maintain their Norcross home. She also built a small cabin on her father's old Mossy Creek farm. There she loved to walk in the woods, showing her grandchildren the giant hole where early potters had dug out white clay and the Indian graves that her father was always careful to plow around.

She enjoyed travel, especially cross country trips to visit her youngest son in the rugged mining country of British Columbia. But the thing she loved best was making children feel happy, warm and loved.

She is survived by her sons, Jasper Hulsey of Buford and Tim Hulsey of British Columbia; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Kelly of Buford, Claudia and Ron Schuler of Pineville, NC, Carol and Bill Owens of Suches, and Debbie and Todd Fowler of Athens; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Gunter of Atlanta, Jim and Frances Gunter of Cleveland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred Quartarone of Tucker, Georgia and Mahlon Houseknecht of Lilburn, Margaret and Carvis Patterson of Lilburn, JoAnn Marchman of Cleveland, and Barbara and Garry Craig of Pennsacola, FL; in-laws, Ruth Gunter, Fannie Mae Dixon, Sally Gailey, Ann and Hiram Johnson, and Virginia Hulsey, grandchildren, David Kelly, Stephanie Morgan, Sara and Sharon Schuler, Bryan, Reid and Curtis Owens and Scott and Katie Fowler; six great-grandchildren and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hulsey will be on Sunday, December 30, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Tapp Funeral Home and graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at the Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in White County. Family will receive friends at Tapp Funeral Home on Saturday, December 29, 2001 after 2:00 p.m. Tapp Funeral Home, Buford, GA. www.tappfuneralhome.com
