PLATTEVTLLE — Mrs. Ann Witham, McNett, who knew General Grant, and who was in her 20's when the Civil war was fought, died at her home here Saturday at the age of 99.
Mrs. McNett was born in Doylestown, Pa., July 11, 1837, and came to this section of Wisconsin when eight years-old. She had lived here or in this vicinity ever since and was the oldest person in Grant county. When she came to Wisconsin she and her family had to make the trip by canal boat and stagecoach, Wisconsin was not yet a state and the region around here was mostly unsettled virgin forest and unfenced plains.
Her husband was Lorenzo McNett, one of the first persons to settle in this region. He died in 1883 and since that time Mrs. McNett made her home here in the city.
