Thomas Carroll McBrayer, Sr., age 82 of Jonesboro, passed away on June 3, 2009, at Southwest Christian Care in Union City, GA.

Carroll was born December 16, 1926, to Lewis Samuel and Katie Lewis McBrayer. His stepmother was Berta Holbrook McBrayer. Carroll graduated from Tech High in 1944, and entered the United States Navy, training to be a tail-gunner on the PB4Y-2 (Privateer). Following his discharge in 1946, he worked for Western Electric throughout Georgia and from Chicago to Miami. He later operated clothing stores in Jonesboro and Forest Park and worked at Walter R. Thomas Jewelers, also attending the Atlanta division of UGA (now Georgia State University.) Carroll joined Delta Air Lines in 1957, beginning as a mechanic in the Instrument Shop. He always took great pride in being part of the "Delta family" and spent most of his 30 years in the facilities operations division.

After retirement in 1987, Carroll directed his time into being a grandparent, muscadine wine-maker, tomato grower and back-yard gardener once grafting a plum limb onto a peach tree that bore both fruits. He and Dorothy, enjoyed escaping to Pike County for the peace and quiet of "the country."

In addition to his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Stephens McBrayer, Carroll is survived by sons, Tom McBrayer (Peggy), Peachtree City and Sam McBrayer, Jonesboro; grandchildren, Michael and Megan McBrayer; brothers, Dan McBrayer (Diane) and Jack McBrayer; brother-in-law, Jack Stephens, Jonesboro; cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Jonesboro First United Methodist Church, 142 S. Main St, Jonesboro on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 11:00 AM, visitation at 10:00 AM.
