Well, I am gone/out-a-here/tootleloo as of 5:15 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2007, at Lynchburg General Hospital. I hope God is happy with what I have done because I certainly wanted my life to be different than it was. I don't mind having been so ill. I do, however, mind that no one would hire me. The whole point of having a transplant is so that patients can work and be productive.

Some of you knew my parents, Christine and Jim MacKenzie of Concord; deceased 1990. Some of you know that I was an only child. They tried; we had a hard time of it.

I was educated, receiving a BA and ME from Lynchburg College, had a reasonable amount of intellect, spent my life trying to grow and be better, and have never felt like I fit in anywhere. I am sorry about that; it wasn't fun for me, either. Hence, my spiritual path became the most important thing in my life.

I was an artist of sorts. I loved the things I know how to do; especially logo design and newsletter/magazine layout. I loved doing SCENE Magazine; every-thing about it but the sales!

I am survived by Leonard Varallo, MY Most Main Man for 35 years; Jeff Sliauzis, my brother by choice; Sue Premo; Sally Shafffer; Billy Grennon; an uncle, Marshall Garrette; aunts, Alice Moore, Marian Garrette, and Alma Garrette; numerous cousins and various, and sundry people whom I have loved and who have loved me.

Please, send your praises to Dr. Richard Giles (who started the dialysis clinic in this area and was responsible for the Renal Dialysis floor at LGH); Dr. Robert Lockridge, my "personal" doctor since August 4, 1987!!!; Dr. James Cox who truly hated to hurt a patient and plenty of others of the UVa/Lynchburg Nephrology Clinic and to Dr. Thomas Nygaard, Dr. Jeff Wid-meyer, Dr. Alferi, Dr. Frantz, and plenty others at LGH and VBH. We are lucky to have such good care here, in Lynchburg.

Please, no flowers. Send your money, in thanks, to the UVa/Lynchburg Nephrology Clinic, 103 Clifton Street, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

Starting now, enjoy your lives, LOVE more than you ever have before and help others as much as you can. I wish I had understood that much sooner than I did. I want you to know, however, that in all of my medical life I was NEVER, EVER, ONE TIME, afraid. That was a God-thing.

I will be cremated and a service of celebration will be held at a later date.
