TUALATIN, April 4—Dr. G. W. Cusick, of this place, died at 7 A. M. Wednesday, of pneumonia. The funeral services will be held at the residence of the deceased’s daughter, Mrs. A. C. Lohmire, in South Portland, at 10:30 A. M. Friday.
G. W. Cusick was born in Adams county, Illinois, in 1841. He came to Oregon with his parents in 1853, settling near Scio, in Linn county. His father, Solomon Cusick, was a pioneer, well-known throughout the whole state, and very prominent in church work and all acts of charity. Dr. Cusick left three brothers and two sisters. His brothers are J. W. Cusick, a banker of Albany; Dr. W. A. Cusick, and J. H. Cusick, of Salem. The sisters are Mrs. Eliza Miller, of Adams county, Illinois, and Mrs. Mary Montgomery, of Scio, Linn county. Dr. Cusick was married in 1861, to Miss Sarah Stayton, eldest daughter of the late Elder D. S. Stayton, founder of Stayton, Marion county. Mrs. Cusick and their four children survive him. The children are: Mrs. A. C. Lohmire, of South Portland; Frank D. Cusick, now in Chicago; Mrs. H. L. Shaw, who was at home at the time of her father’s death, preparing to join her husband, who is now in Honolulu, and Rolla W. Curick, who is the youngest child, and still at home. Dr. Cusick, as a physician, was well liked, and had a large practice. He was a kind and generous husband and father. Those who knew him best loved him most. He was an active member of the Baptist church, and greatly interested in Sunday-school work. He was also a member in good standing in the Order of Odd Fellows.
