Clara DeBlock Woolmington died Dec. 5, 2003, at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.

She was born in Midland Park, N.J. Dec. 16, 1920.

Her father was in the plumbing and heating business until the family moved to Goshen, N.Y. in 1931, where he began a lifetime in dairy farming.

She graduated from Chester High School near Goshen in 1937 and attended Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill., where she met her husband, Parker Woolmington.

Clara and Parker were married on May 30, 1941, in Wheaton, just days after her graduation.

They lived briefly in Narberth, Pa., where their daughter was born. With World War II influencing everyone, Parker joined the Army and they moved to Shepherd Field, Texas, where their daughter was born.

After the war, the couple settled in Narberth, where Parker was in the catering business.

They became involved in Christian camping and spent a portion of their summers at Camp Winnepasaukie in New Hampshire.

In 1951 their son was born and the family moved to Nathrop, where they had a position with Young Life at Frontier Ranch.

They moved in 1953 to nearby Silver Cliff Ranch and in the fall of 1954, began their dream – Deer Valley Ranch – with the idea of building a Christian family guest ranch.

Their son was born in 1956 and the family was instrumental in developing Deer Valley through the next 25 years.

The couple became involved in the local community, particularly through First Baptist Church of Buena Vista. Clara was a Sunday school teacher for many years and was a deaconess.

She was known as someone who would encourage, support and offer a kind thought and word for all around her. She attended all the games as her children and grandchildren played for their various school teams.

At Deer Valley she did all the cooking in the early years and most of the office work, bookkeeping and everything else necessary to raise a family and run a ranch.

Following retirement in 1978, they continued to live at Deer Valley while spending most of the winter in South Padre Island, Texas.

Mrs. Woolmington is survived by her husband, Parker Woolmington; children of Nathrop, Denver; and Buena Vista; grandchildren of Denver, Nathrop, Colorado Springs, Dallas, Texas, and Buena Vista; brother of Blairs-town, N.J. and sister of Jacksonville, Fla.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Buena Vista.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given in Clara’s name to a charitable giving fund that was established at the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary. These can be sent to Deer Valley Ranch, Nathrop, CO 81236.
