Obituary: From The Aledo Times Record, March 9, 1894
Mrs. Mary Flemings died at her home in Marston, February 28, 1894, of a partial stroke of paralysis, combined with old age and a bad fall received some weeks ago. She was born in Drumhaply, county Derry, Ireland, March 1, 1820. In 1841 she was united in marriage to John Flemmings of Derry. To this union eight children were born. William, Eliza, Martha and James, reside in Marston. Marie is married and lives in the old country; John in Philadelphia and Margaret and Jane deceased.
In 1881 John Flemings, wife and five children left their home in the old country and came to America. They landed in New York about the middle of May and came directly to Mercer county, where they settled on the farm of George Irwin near Aledo. They resided there about two years and then moved to the farm of John Collins in the northern part of the county.
In 1887 Mr. Flemings died, leaving a wife and six children to mourn his loss. He was interred in the Aledo Cemetery. After his death Mrs. Flemings made her home with her son and daughter, William and Eliza until her death.
She had one brother, George Irwin, in Aledo. She was highly respected by all who knew her. She was a member of the Presbyterian church. Her last words were: "Come Lord, Jesus." The funeral services were held at the house, conducted by Rev. Patterson, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Hamlet. The remains were taken to Aledo and laid to rest beside her husband.
