Seth Norton, was born in Edgartown, Massachusetts Bay Colony, to Phineas Norton and Patience Cleveland. Seth was their eldest child and one of seven children. Feb 7, 1760, in Edgartown, Seth married Amy Norton, his 3rd cousin. In approximately 1767, Seth, Amy and their first two children, Elihu and Amy Emma, left Edgartown along with Daniel Look and his wife Ann Butler Look and settled in the Pleasant River section, in what is known today as the Upper East Side of Addison, Washington, Maine. Together Seth and Amy had seven children. Seth was one of 40 men from the region who captured the "HMS Margaretta", on 12 June 1775, at Machias, Maine, in one of the first naval battles of the Revolution. Seth's DAR #A084880. Seth was known to be very friendly with the Indians which eased the tensions of the times.

NOTE: For a very long time, the burial place of Seth, Amy (Norton), Elihu and Sarah (Beal) Norton was unknown, however, I am forever grateful to a friend, relative, and remarkable researcher, Shaun P Smith, who searched and found the recorded graves of these amazing American Patriots. Shaun, thanks again for adding to our wonderful Jonesport, Washington County, Maine and family history!
