John married Susan Stamper abt 1816 in GA. She was " . . . an Indian girl. The story is told that she wore her ceremonial dress for their wedding, then destroyed it saying she was now going to live like a white woman. . . ". They had 11 children.
John & a brother " . . moved from Georgia to Connersville, Indiana where John's occupation was rafting logs down the river to New Orleans, Louisiana. The raft was sometimes a quarter of a mile long and was guided by men with cars. In 1840 both brothers moved to Illinois where they settled on adjoining farms in Jefferson County in the Texico area. It is said that each received 80 acres of land for their service in the Kentucky War. . . . ". John also fought in the War of 1812 as a "hunter".
