Juanita Thurlow Durr, 93, of Winnie, died Friday, January 15, 2010, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Jasper.

A native of Beaumont and a resident of Winnie since 1952, Juanita was born December 22, 1916, to S.J. and Floy Cardiff Thurlow. She was a Beaumont High School graduate and attended Southwest Texas University in San Marcos. Juanita and her husband owned and operated Durr Distributing Company in Winnie for many years.

She served on the Winnie Hospital Lady Auxiliary, was a past worthy matron of the Eastern Star, a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and WSCS (UMW), along with many other community organizations. Juanita enjoyed playing the piano and played violin with the Beaumont Symphony. She prided herself as being a professional tailor and seamstress.

Her husband, P.A. Durr; her parents; one sister; and one brother preceded her in death.

Juanita is survived by her daughters, Patricia Thomas, Lynda Glenn, and Anita Skinner; son, David Durr; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Marceline White.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at Broussard’s, 134 W. Buccaneer, Winnie with a private interment. A gathering of her family and friends will be 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, until the time of service at Broussard’s.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Winnie-Stowell, Building Fund, P.O. Box 1570, Winnie, Texas 77665.
