In the early 1960s, along with his brothers, he established the well-known Carmichael Brothers Corporation. At the peak of their success they owned, operated and leased a number of businesses, which included a diner that featured Southern cuisine, a service station, a travel agency, a bagging store, Carver's Federal Bank, music/entertainment establishments and a real estate office. He was a master mechanic.
He lived in Jamaica for over 50 years, but he never hesitated to let everyone know that he was from Springfield, SC.
He was the son of the late Richard and Alice Fulmer Carmichael. Survivors include his sister, Mrs. Corleen Carswell of Springfield; one brother, Leroy Carmichael of Orangeburg; a brother-in-law, Charles Emanuel Ferguson of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
