ORANGE -- Sherry Ann Fiske, 62, of 34 Bacon Street, Orange, died (March 2, 2012) at home after a courageous 4+ year battle with cancer.

Sherry was born in Gardner on November 13, 1949 to the late William Charles MacEwen and Patricia Ann (Taintor) Parker.

She grew up in Phillipston and Athol and graduated from Athol High School in 1967.

Sherry was the co-owner of Sherry & Diane Catering before becoming the Food Service Director of the Orange Elementary Schools. Prior to her retirement in June 2008, Sherry was an integral part in the innovation of new ideas in the school kitchens. Through grants and other creative means, she implemented an electronic ticketing system and free breakfast, farm to table, and summer feeding programs. She participated in conferences across the state to keep up on legislation and opportunities she could use to improve her programs. During employment, and even after retirement, she was often asked to consult with other food services directors so they could learn from her.

She participated in the 20-mile Walk for Hunger several years in a row and enjoyed painting and participating in craft fairs with her friends as the 3 Sisters Crafters. She also enjoyed traveling, riding her motorcycle, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Sherry is predeceased by her husband of 22 years, Keith Fiske, and also by her first husband Peter Softic.

She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Times spent with her family and friends were most important to Sherry.

She will be remembered and missed by her mother: Patricia A. Parker of Orange; her siblings: Diane Blankenship and her husband Brian of Athol, William MacEwen and his wife Fran of Brookville, PA, and Brian MacEwen of Petersham; her beloved children: Jodi A. Coverly and her husband Scott of Shrewsbury, Peter J. Softic and fiancé Cindy Doyle of Athol, Marcy L. Kelley and her husband Paul of Leominster; her treasured grandchildren: Devon and Dawson Softic, Colin and Cali Laakso, and Meghan and Sean Doyle; and several nieces and nephews. Additionally, she leaves her mother-in-law, Nancy Fiske, her step-son, William Fiske, her step-granddaughter, Chelsea Fiske, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know her.

Sherry touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity, and she maintained her courage, positivity, and sense of humor all the way to the end. Her family wishes to extend their appreciation to all the medical and non-medical specialists that helped her live her life to the fullest with the quality and dignity she so deserved.

There will be no services.

Sherry chose to participate in the Anatomical Gift Program at the University of Massachusetts Medical School with the hope that she could contribute to the future of medical education and research.
