ROGERSVILLE – Thomas Lyle Brooks, Sr., age 71, of Rogersville, passed away Sunday (1/13/13) at UT Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a eight year veteran of the U.S. Navy. Tom served four years in Vietnam and was a 55 year member of the American Legion post 21 and the Joseph Rogers VFW post 9543. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Rogersville and a lifelong resident of Hawkins County. He was retired from TRW following 25 years of service.
He was preceded in death by son, Timothy Lynn Brooks, granddaughter, Kara Shae Brooks, father, James H. Brooks, mother, Mary Gertrude Brooks, sister, Mary Sue Russell, brothers, Johnny Brooks, Dave Brooks, and Paul Brooks.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, JoAnn Brooks, son, Thomas L. Brooks, Jr. and wife Jan, grandson, Timothy L. Brooks, III step grandchildren, brothers, Kenny Brooks and wife Peggy, Bill Brooks and wife Mary Ellen, many special nieces and nephews, wonderful friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday (1/17/13) at Christian-Sells Funeral Home. Hawkins County Color Guard and The Tennessee Army National Guard will have military services at 7 p.m. followed by funeral services with Rev. Rusty Buchanan officiating.
