A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Rochester Township April 3, 1862, with the
1st Missouri Battery, Light Artillery Militia, aka Waschman's Battery.
Honorably discharged January 17, 1864.
Samuel's wife, Elizabeth Knights family goes back to Henry 7th of England, father of Henry 8th and Mary Tudor who is the ancestor of Elizabeth Knight.
