Thomas was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania 10 May 1747.
He married in 1769 to Martha Thomas, born about 1751 in Catteret County, North Carolina.
Thomas served in the Revolutionary War. He was in the 2nd North Carolina Regiment at one time.
Martha died after 1810 in Duplin County, NC.
Thomas Carleton's will was recorded in the Parish of St. Gabriel, Duplin County, NC on 7 Sept 1795, listing his heirs as: four daughters, Rachael, Anna, Elizabeth, and Lydia; sons John, Stephen and Thomas. Martha, his wife, and John, his son, were named executrix and executor of his will. The will can be found in Duplin County, North Carolina recorded in Book A page 69.
In Peter Carlton's will, 13 May 1840, he lists Thomas Carleton as his father-in-law, whose wife was Martha, and leaves land to be equally divided between John Carlton, Thomas Carlton, Rachel Rogers, Anna Gilstrap, and Lydia Mathis, thus giving the surnames of his sisters-in-law.
* My grandmother's records put him and Martha in this cemetery, but I am not sure this is true since he died in Duplin County, NC. I will keep looking.
