BK wrote her own obituary, which appears below.
I was born in Ora, Indiana on August 7, 1946. My parents were Raymond and Emma Duke. Two weeks after I was born, my mother returned to whatever show they on at the time.
I was raised on several circuses. I do remember when I was seven, I had to play the records and walk in speck so I could eat in the cook house. When I was about 10 years old, my father started working for Bill Griffith.
Bill was partners with Little Bob Stevens for a while. I grew up and learned a lot as Bill had me doing every job there was to do--and then some! I thought he was just finding me jobs because he didn't want to lose my father as his booking agent. IN 1967, I found out different!
The Silverlakes bought Clark & Walters Circus from Herb Walters. I had grown up with the Silverlake family, and in 1967 I married Melvin Silverlake and we had one son, Mel Ray.
In 1971, Melvin and I took out for Fisher Bros. Circus because Josephine Silverlake thought it was a good idea since we had two of everything. It would up the two of everything was s snow cone machine, and elephant (actually three) and a few extra seats. We put the rest together and had a successful circus for several years.
We sold the Fisher Bros. Circus to John and Corky Frazier. After that, we were on Hoxie Bros. Circus, John Davenport's Different Circus, the Toby Tyler Circus, and a few more. We also had a unit of Robinson's Racing Pigs. And, we have done several indoor circuses.
Melvin and I eventually divorced, and that's when I worked on Kelly Miller circus, Carson & Barnes Circus, Hendrix Bros. Circus and a few others. I have also worked on a few carnivals, Peachtree Rides and Moore's Greater Shows.
