Mr. Rebenack first joined the Pennsylvania National Guard in 1905. Later he joined the United States Navy at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in November of 1907. He was sent to electricians school and was assigned to the USS Hancock and later the USS Rhode Island. He was honorable discharged in November of 1911 as an Electrician 2nd Class. In 1913 he re-joined the Pennsylvania National Guard where he was promoted to Quarter-Master Sgt. In July of 1916 he was mustered into Company K of the 18th U. S. Infantry. He was awarded the Mexican Border Service medal, the Pennsylvania State National Guard Mexican Border Service medal, the 18th Infantry Marksman shooting medal, the Team Marksman medal, the Pennsylvania Expert Gov. Tener medal, the Pennysylvania second class Marksman medal, the Pennsylvania Expert marksman medal, and the Army & Navy Union Membership medal.
