Joannes (John) Bax, 86, was born in Tournhout, Belgium on July 29, 1925. He passed away on November 15, 2011 at Sunshine Haven Hospice Facility in Olmito, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two younger brothers: Leo Bax and Louie Bax, all in Belgium.

He is survived by his
4 sons in Canada:
John (Karen),
Emiel,
Leo (Leigh), and
Joe (Dawn);
7 grandsons and 2 granddaughters;
9 great-grandchildren;

his wife Alice,
her 3 children and spouses, and
her 7 grandchildren.

There are many birding friends around the world who will miss him also.

In 1965 John immigrated to London, Ontario, Canada, and soon afterwards started his filming career, his specialty being birds. After traveling many places to film different birds in this hemisphere, he followed the migrating birds to the valley and found it a beautiful place to continue his work. John and Alice have lived in Port Isabel for the past 7 years.

A memorial service is scheduled for December 3, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Port Isabel, Texas.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Joannes (John) Bax to Sunshine Haven Hospice Facility, PO Box 4478, Brownsville, TX 78523.
