Emory "Sonny" Roy Johnston, Jr., 70, of Mannington and formerly of Seven Pines passed away, Friday, March 19, 2010 at his residence after and extended struggle with heart problems. Emory was born on September 27, 1939 at Seven Pines a son of the late Emory Roy and Opal Willey Johnston Sr.
Emory enjoyed his family and hunting, fishing, farming, and the outdoors when he was still able. Emory was an over the road truck driver for 42 years, he loved to travel the open road with the company of his wife Shirley. When his illness prevented him from continuing trucking he missed being a truck driver. He was a graduate of Mannington High School Class of 1959 and enjoyed coaching basesball when he was younger.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years Shirley C. Johnston, a son Josh Culotta at home, a daughter and son-in-law Theresa "Teri" and David Hayes of Mannington, two sons and daughters-in-law Vince and Angel Culotta of Glover's Gap, and Sam and Christine Culotta of Oklahoma. Eleven grandchildren Timothy Coberly, Jr., Kristofer J. Hayes, Brandi and Vicki Culotta all of Mannington, Kayla, Shay, Andrew Alex, Melissa, Jacob and Abigail Culotta all of Oklahoma, and a sister-in-law Juanita Johnston of Baltimore, MD as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Emory was preceded in death by his Brothers Howard, Eugene, and Okey "Jack" Johnston and one sister Lorraine McDonald, also his greatly missed adopted brother and best friend Vincent F. Culotta Sr. who passed away March 17, 2008. The family would like to extend a special Thanks to his daughter Teri who was by his side throughout Emory's illness, Hospice and especially Rob Tennant.
Friends may call at Hutson Funeral Home, 500 E. Main St Mannington on Tuesday from 2-7 pm where funeral services will be held at 7pm with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating. At Emory's request he will be cremated following the funeral services.
