He was born in North Carolina to George Washington Duckworth, and Eliza Powell. His family moved to Pickens Co, South Carolina when he was young. He married Rhoda S Lineberger, and they came to Collin Co, Texas ca 1899. According to where children were born, they may have stopped off in Birmingham, AL [some of Duckworth's relatives lived there] and then settled in Arkansas for a while before coming to Texas. They were parents of three known children: Cloyd W Duckworth born in Birmingham, AL when they were on the way to Texas in 1879. He became a coal miner in Arkansas, and is buried in Ft Smith, AR. Naka "Nokie" G Duckworth born in Pickens Co, SC married a Spanish-American war veteran, James F V Freeman, and they lived for the most part in Ft Smith AR, and George A Duckworth born Pickens Co, SC who married a daughter of Thomas Parkins, his future step-father and who lived in the Greenview Community, Hopkins Counnty, Texas. After Samuel Duckworth died before 1900, his widow, Rhoda S Duckworth married Thomas Parkins, a widower whose wife had recently died in Grayson Co, TX. Parkins also from Pickens, South Carolina was a Civil War Veteran. It is very likely that the Parkins and Duckworth families knew each other from Pickens Co, SC. After Thomas Parkins died in 1915, Rhoda moved to Arkansas to live for the most part with her daughter, and died there in 1938. She did return to live with her son in Hopkins Co, TX for a while and applied for a CSA pension which she drew after 1928. She is buried in Oak Cemetery, Sebastian County, AR with two of her children.
