A lifelong resident of Bedford, although he was born in Italy and brought here as an infant, he attended Bedford schools until age 16, when he began to apprentice with local cement and masonry contractors. During World War II, he helped build the Ravenna Arsenal and became a superintendant for the Hunkin-Conkey Construction Co. He started the A.Massaro Cement Contracting Co. in 1946 and until 1970, had been a major contractor of sidewalks and curbing in the Bedford area as well as building and re-structuring several local buildings. spent winters after his retirement in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. where he enjoyed fishing. He began aking custom rods and fishing tackle in a room in his house which he converted to a workshop. He was a hunter, a gardener, and is remembered by many as a talented ballroom dancer in the 20s and 30s. He was a charter member of St.Mary Church and active in civic affairs. He was the husband of the late Anna, nee Hruska, and the late Clara, nee Ochocki; father of Mary Ann Taylor and JoAnn Harwood of Bedford, and David of Chardon; grandfather of five; brother of Albert, Fannie Sorace Adeline, Stella Volpe and Lorraine Barnes. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St.Mary Church. Burial was in All Saints Cemetery. St. John Funeral Home handled the arrangements. (Bedford Times-Register, Thurs. March 21, 1991)
