Joseph L. Andes, 84, died Thursday, March 16, 1989 at a Topeka nursing home following an extended illness. He was born Sept. 27, 1904 at Topeka, the son of Michael and Mary Simon Andes.

Mr. Andes was a pipe fitter and a sheet metal worker for Santa Fe Railway for 46 years before retiring in February 1971. Mr. Andes was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He was married to Florentine Leiker on Sept. 16, 1935 at Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Germaine Henry, Overland, and Mary Prosser, Golden, Colo.; a sister, Ann Berberick, Denver; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian

Burial will be at noon Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Andres will lie in state from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Brennan Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be recited a 8 p.m.
