Captain Samuel Moseley was born Samuel Maudsley, the son of Henry Maudsley/Maudesley. His father emigrated from Lancashire, England on the Hopewell in 1635. Early in his career Capt. Moseley was an adventurer, perhaps even a privateer. Capt. Moseley married Ann Addington, who was the niece of the very influential Gov. John Leverett. When King Philip's War broke out Samuel Moseley was appointed captain of a company from Suffolk. Captain Moseleley had an unwavering hatred for Native Americans and therefore refused to use friendly Indian forces in his campaigns.
