A memorial service for Joe S. Blankenship Jr., 78, of Tyler will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler with Bob Logan officiating.

Mr. Blankenship passed away on Thursday (July 10, 2008) at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. He was born on Oct. 16, 1929 in Mart, Texas to the late Joe Stevenson Blankenship Sr. and Ida Mae Graham.

Mr. Blankenship was a resident of Palestine for 15 years before moving to Tyler three years ago. He worked for Central Texas Bus Company for 18 years before his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church of Palestine. He loved woodworking and playing the harmonica.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Blankenship was preceded in death by brothers, Ray Blankenship and Jimmy Blankenship.

He is survived by a loving family including his wife of 57 years, Claudia Greenwood Blankenship of Tyler; four sons, Joe S. Blankenship III and wife Susie of Port Aransas, Dale Blankenship of Beeville, Johnny Blankenship and wife Jo Nell of Bullard, and David Blankenship and wife Beverly of Eureka Springs, Ark.; sister, Doris Cranford; brother, Gene Blankenship; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
