Adora "Dora" M. (Grant) Burt, the youngest child of William Merriman Grant (b. 2 Oct 1809 Baltimore MD, d. 30 May 1885 Guernsey Co OH) and Catherine Washington (Rogers) Grant (b. 14 June 1818 Fountain Green, Harford Co. MD, d. 18 Mar 1878 Guernsey Co. OH) was born on the former homestead of Jonathan Bye, which her father William had purchased, in Jackson Twp. just across Wills Creek from Byesville village. On 16 April 1885 she married Elmer Whittaker Burt (b. 25 Feb 1862 Jackson, Guernsey Co., d. 12 Mar 1920 Union Co. OH), a son of Nathan Burt. Elmer was first a coal miner and later a store clerk. Children:

Dora Grant was a descendant of Francis Cooke of the Mayflower through her father William Merriman Grant (1809-1885), son of Susannah Ames Grant (1776-1869) and John Grant Jr.(1769-1813).
