Edwin Arthur Rieniets was born April 25, 1919 to John and Lena Rieniets in Fulda, MN, They moved to rural Amenia, ND, where he was raised and attended country school. In 1934, the family moved to Hunter, ND, where he was employed. He married Muriel L. Schur at St. John Lutheran Church, Arthur, ND, on December 2, 1940. They lived in Hunter, ND, where a son, Bruce was born December 1, 1941.
In June 1942, he entered the United States Navy and served as a Gunner’s Mate aboard Merchant Marine ships. He served in the Navy until October of 1945. He moved to Arthur, ND where he farmed and became a United States Postal Service Rural Mail Carrier until 1973. He retired from the mail service in 1976 at Barrett, MN and moved to Fargo, at which time they joined Peace Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Rural Letter Carrier’s Association. Their summers were spent at Big Cormorant Lake, MN, and winters in Mesa, AZ, until 1997.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Muriel; son, Bruce and wife, Lori, Fargo; two grandchildren, Lee, McAllen, TX, Michelle, Fargo; one great grandson, Chace, Fargo and a sister, Martha (Kise) Nouque, Martinez, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
Visitation: 5 to 7 Tuesday, January 3, 2006 from in West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo with a prayer service to follow at 7.
Funeral: Wednesday, January 4, at 10:30 in Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo.
Burial: Arthur (ND) Cemetery.
