Rev. Rese (Reze) was Bishop of the Detroit Diocese, being appointed on February 25, 1833, and ordained Bishop the following October 6. Even though he returned to Europe in 1840, he remained the diocese's bishop until he died. Bishop Peter Paul Lefevere (April 30, 1804-March 4, 1869) was named Coadjutor Bishop (administrator) of the diocese on July 23, 1841 and served in that position until he died.
