MITCHELL, 73, Local photographer, died at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, of an apparent heart attack while he was working in his yard.-- He was born June 3, 1889, the son of James C. Mitchell & Jennie (Goff) Mitchell at Valley Springs, Llano County. He lived most of his life in San Saba County at Cherokee and San Saba.-- A Barber in his earlier years, he first married Miss Jonnie Laura Edwards of Cherokee in 1913. She died in 1939. He married Mrs. Melba Moore August , 1950. In 1937, Mitchell who for many years had photography as a hobby, quit the barber business & turned his hobby into his regular occupation. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge.--Survivors include, his wife, Mrs. Melba Mitchell of San Saba; a son, J.C. Mitchell of San Marcos; two step-daughters, Mrs Weldon Mahan of Brownwood & Mrs. Don Tombaugh of Lampasas; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.--Funeral Services were held at 3 p.m., Friday, March 15, at Howell-Doran Chapel, conducted by Dr. R.C. Tennison and Rev. Sam D. Taylor.--Burial was made in Hanna Cemetery at Cherokee.--Pallbearers included, Ruby Smith, Ben Helmcamp, Bill Maultsby, Ron Strickland, J.B. Harper and Arch Clements.
