History of San Joaquin County, California with Biographical Sketches Historic Record Company, Los Angeles, CA - 1923
The Cottage Home (Hotel) was established in July 1851, by Elam Dye, who offered to man and beast, a good stable with plenty of hay and and $2 per day for dinner. Two years later Mr. Thomas Wilson advertised all of the furniture and movable fixtures for sale.
Charles A. Mead later leased the Hotel and renamed The Eagle Hotel.
The hotel was managed by William Colnon, father of Edward Colnon, the newspaper man. In 1861 the owners, Sanders & Hook, intending to improve, sold the building to E. L. Houche. The building was removed to El Dorado Street, where it now stands. The Stockton Savings & Loan bank now stands on the former site of
the Cottage Home.
