John Martens, who lived on a ranch three miles east of Kiowa, died Saturday, Feb. 28, at Elizabeth, at the age of 52 years, the cause of death being blood poisoning. Deceased was born in Sleidinge, province of East Flanders, Belgium, and came to this county in 1882, locating in Elbert county about 1884.
While hauling stone for the Catholic church building at Kiowa Saturday, Feb. 21, he dropped a stone on his right foot, bruising it badly, but thought it was nothing serious till last Wednesday when he went to Elizabeth to receive medical attention from Dr. Booher.
