Birth: Sep. 10, 1869
Johnson County
Kentucky, USA
Death: Jan. 4, 1940
Floyd County
Kentucky, USA

Ellen Baldridge was a daughter of John Baldridge b. 1848 John's Creek, Johnson Co. KY. John was the son of John Baldridge, Sr. b. 1822 Russell Co. VA and Levisa Brown. This John was a son of William Baldridge, Jr. b. ca. 1895 and a grandson of William Baldridge b. 1770 in NC.

John Wesley Baldridge was born on August 18, 1866 to Charles Baldridge and Annie Morris. Charles Baldridge was born in 1835 Russell Co. VA to Robert Baldridge and Eleanor Hicks. Robert Baldridge was born in 1811 Russell Co. VA to William Baldridge born 1770 in NC and Mary Arnett.

John and Ellen were distant cousins. I looked up their marriage record at the Floyd County Court House. They were my Paternal Grandparents.

Floyd County Marriage Records:
John Wesley Baldridge age 20 married Ellen Baldridge age 16 on January 1, 1887 at the home of John’s parents Charles & Annie Baldridge.

I don’t know why they left Floyd County, KY and moved to Knott County, KY and then later on moved back to Floyd County, KY but I assume it had to do with politics.
While in Knott County, KY. John Wess (as he was known) was the Magistrate.
I don’t know how long his term was but when it was over, he moved his family back to Floyd County. They lived about four miles from Lackey, Floyd County, and he owned and ran a (Script) Store in Lackey at that time.
I don’t know how long the family lived outside Lackey, but their next move was to Hueysville, Floyd County, KY and that was their last move. Here John Wess operated a General Store and a Corn Mill. He was successful at both and very well liked and respected.
I knew my Grandparents when they were living in Hueysville. My Grandfather was called Old John Wess by his friends and that is all I ever heard him called. I always thought that Wess was his middle name until I started researching my family tree and discovered his middle name was really Wesley.

Grandfather John Wess died in 1928 and Grandmother Ellen died in 1940. They both are buried in the Huff Cemetery in Hueysville, Kentucky. I was very lucky to have had them in my life.
