Memorial service for Dr. Arthur Claude Wadlington, age 81, of Farmerville will be held Wednesday May 30, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home in Farmerville. Officiating will be Rev. David Martin. Visitation will be one hour prior to time of service.
Dr. Wadlington died Friday, May 25th at his residence.
He served Union Parish as a physician for 60 years beginning at age twenty-four. Dr. Wadlington was born August 30, 1925 in Shreveport, graduating from Farmerville High School in 1942 and LSU School of Medicine on May 29, 1948.
"Doc" interned at Charity Hospital in Shreveport. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the Korean conflict.
Upon returning to his home-town he opened Wadlington Clinic on June 3, 1949 and was active in his private practice and local nursing homes until the day of his death. His life-long dedication to his many patients was a fact well known to family and friends. From Aug. 1, 1972 to July 31, 1974 he studied for the residency in Internal Medicine at Confederate Memorial Medical Center in Shreveport.
When Union General Hospital opened in 1974 he became staff physician and served until July 2005.
Dr. Wadlington was a member of Louisiana Medical Society, Farmerville United Methodist Church and former member of Union Parish School Board, American Legion and Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred Brown Lambeth and James Garnett Wadlington.
Survivors include his son, Christopher Garnett Wadlington of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana; grandchildren, Grant Christopher Wadlington, Anne Marie Wadlington and Trent Patrick Wadlington of Lafayette, Louisiana. Stepson, Kerry H. Emmons of Lafayette and granddaughters, Jenna Lee Emmons of Gainsville, Florida and Elizabeth Andree' Emmons of Fernandina Beach, Florida.
In accordance with the Doctor's wishes his body has been cremated. In lieu of flowers, he and his family request any planned memorial be made to the Farmerville United Methodist Church, Louisiana Heart Association or Louisiana Methodist Children's Home in Ruston, Louisiana.
