Born in Normal, IL, one of two children of George and Hope Brenkman Hruska, she received a B. S. degree in biological science from Illinois State in 1979 and a master's in botany from Eastern Illinois, Charleston in 1993. She died at her home in Urbana, IL. Her brother survives.
She was involved with the North American Savanna and Barrens Conference, the Native Plant Society of Illinois and served on the steering committee for Earth Day Celebration with Urbana Park District. Hruska also served as secretary for Audubon Council of Illinois.
She had written several publications regarding savanna restoration, plant data and management, development of ice storm-resistant urban trees for Illinois State U. Midwest Oak Savanna Conference, the University of Illinois and Illinois State Academy of Science. She was a past president of Grand Prairie Friends.
She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist church of Urbana where she sang in the Chancel Choir. She had traveled with Camerata Appalachia Choir to Europe in 1999, 2001 and 2003. She was also Chair of Wesley Environmental Stewardship Task Force and was involved in Outreach at the church.
