Samuel Breck McIntyre of Chattanooga, Tennessee, was born on June 17th, 1872, in the State of Tennessee.
He served as a Private, Corporal, and Sergeant in Company G of the 6th United States Infantry Regiment from June 6th, 1891, to June 5th, 1896.
With the outbreak of the Spanish American War in 1898 he nrolled and was mustered into service as the Captain of Company M of the 3rd Tennessee Volunteer Infantry Regiment on May 19th, 1898, for two years service, serving with that Regiment throughout its service and being mustered out of service with the Company on January 31st, 1899, at Anniston, Alabama.
He was then appointed as a Second Lieutenant in the 37th United States Volunteer Infantry Regiment on July 5th, 1899 (accepting the appointment on August 3rd, 1899), being promoted to First Lieutenant on April 10th, 1900, and was honorably mustered out of Volunteer service on June 30th, 1901.
Upon being mustered out of volunteer service he was appointed as a First Lieutenant of Cavalry with the 9th United States Cavalry Regiment on February 2nd, 1901 (accepting the appointment on July 1st, 1901); transferred to the 4th Infantry Regiment on July 17th, 1901; promoted to Captain of Infantry with the 19th Infantry Regiment on March 24th, 1910; serving as a Paymaster from January 21st, 1911, to March 29th, 1913; assigned to the 6th Infantry Regiment on March 30th, 1913; transferred to the 14th Infantry Regiment on April 19th, 1913; promoted to Major of Infantry on August 3rd, 1917. Appointed as a Lieutenant Colonel of Infantry in the National Army on August 5th, 1917; accepted the appointment on August 23rd, 1917; appointed as a Colonel of Infantry in the United States Army on April 7th, 1919; accepted the appointment on April 9th, 1919; honorably discharged on June 30th, 1920. Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel of Infantry on July 1st, 1920; transferred to the Finance Department on August 12th, 1920, to rank from July 1st, 1920; promoted to Colonel on December 28th, 1926.
He died on February 10th, 1929, at Fort McPherson, Georgia.
